A Comprehensive Guide to Maximizing Income in Path of Exile 2
This guide is based on the experience of a seasoned Path of Exile player and a working professional, offering suggestions that will hopefully help many players.
Sources of Income
1. Drops
Everything that drops during map runs, including valuable currency, materials, and equipment. Understanding the value of these items can be complex, with currency being the easiest to understand, followed by materials, and then equipment.
-
Currency: Directly valuable items like Exalted Orbs and Divine Orbs, which are the basic trading currency in Path of Exile 2.
- Materials: Items like Breach Splinters and various catalysts from Delirium, which can accumulate into significant wealth. Some specific drops, like invitations to fight Delirium bosses, can be very valuable.
- Equipment: Recognizing valuable equipment can be challenging and requires a high level of understanding. Start with the basics:
- Socketed and Quality Equipment: These can be sold for currency items like Armourer's Scraps and Blacksmith's Whetstones. While individually not very valuable, they can accumulate into a significant amount.
-
Unique Equipment: Most uniques are worth one Exalted Orb, but some can be much more valuable, often related to popular builds. Keeping an eye on forums and community updates can help identify valuable items. High-difficulty boss drops are usually more valuable.
- Rare Equipment (Yellow): Often related to popular builds. Start with the builds you are familiar with to understand which modifiers are valuable, such as gem levels for casters or high physical damage for attackers. Early in the game, items with 2-3 resistances are valuable, and later, rare items with useful modifiers can be very valuable.
Examples of valuable modifiers:
- Boots: 35% increased movement speed
-
Weapons: Increased physical damage, increased spell damage, +x to skill levels, critical strike chance, additional elemental damage (fire, lightning, cold)
- Base Items: White items without quality, valued for their type and item level. Some bases are valuable because they can be turned into expensive unique items using Chance Orbs, like Heavy Belts and Onyx Amulets. Others are valuable as crafting bases, typically worth 1-2 Exalted Orbs.
-
Other: T15 maps, Heist contracts, etc.
2. Market Sniping
This involves using the market's auto-refresh feature and staying aware of popular items' prices. It's a complex skill, best started with familiar items. When an item appears, you'll get a notification sound and display, and possibly a pop-up.
This method has low currency cost but high time cost. You might not always succeed, but spending about 2 hours a day can yield at least 3 Exalted Orbs.
For example, a chest piece without quality or sockets but with dual resistances can be upgraded with quality and sockets to be worth 2-3 Exalted Orbs.
Sniping can be low-cost or high-cost:
- Low-Cost Sniping: Requires more time but almost no cost.
- High-Cost Sniping: Higher success rate but depends on item turnover speed.
3. Item Crafting
Crafting in Path of Exile 2 is relatively simple but relies heavily on luck for items with more than three modifiers. The cost can be high, but the finished items can be extremely valuable.
It's generally recommended to craft items for popular builds, such as high physical damage bows, staves with high spell damage and skill levels, or wands with high spell damage and mana.
4. Providing Services
Once you have a good understanding of the game or are very familiar with certain mechanics, you can offer services for a fee, such as teaching, build sharing, boss carries, or helping with Ascendancy trials.
Value Identification Tips
- Testing the Waters: If unsure about an item's value, list it for 1 Exalted Orb. If you get a lot of interest, you might be underpricing it. Gradually increase the price until the interest levels off.
- Accurate Pricing: Use the official market website to search for item prices. For uniques, enter the name directly. If the unique has variable modifiers, include those in your search.
- Price Check Tools: Path of Exile 2 has mature price check tools available, such as EasyTrade (though it can be unreliable due to connection issues).
- Filters: Use updated item filters to help identify valuable drops and hide low-value items. Keep your filters updated to avoid missing valuable items due to outdated settings.
- Font and Translation Patches: Improve readability and correct translation errors with patches. This can include better fonts and clearer in-game text.
Increasing Income
- Atlas Strategy: A good Atlas strategy is crucial for maximizing income. Here are some recommendations for different stages of the Atlas.
- Early Mapping: Focus on getting enough maps and Heist contracts, and upgrading maps using the vendor recipe (3 for 1 higher tier).
- Farming Phase: Combine your preferred mechanics with Atlas passives, such as Altar farming.
Mapping and Tower Strategies
- Route Planning: Plan your routes to maximize efficiency. Use low-value maps to reach high-value towers, and insert the most suitable Heist contracts for the area.
- Map Crafting: Collect T13-15 maps and use currency items to craft maps with three prefixes. Avoid difficult suffixes.
- Map Selection: Choose maps with item rarity, quantity, and rare monster count prefixes. Avoid difficult suffixes for your build.
- Handling Unwanted Maps: Use the vendor recipe to upgrade unwanted maps or sell them on the market.
- Map Categorization: Sort maps by quality into excellent, good, and average categories.
- Map Anointing: Use oils to enhance maps, but balance the increased difficulty with your build's strength.
- Map Usage: Use average maps for general progression, good maps for valuable nodes, and excellent maps for high-reward areas.
Stacking Rarity
General Advice: High rarity doesn't guarantee good drops, so combine diligent mapping with luck and skill for the best results. Aim for 100-200% increased rarity on gear and well-crafted maps for optimal income.
I hope this enriched guide helps you maximize your income in Path of Exile 2!
